Modified Boat Pose
4. Fun sandwiches: try playing with different sandwich ideas & also cutting sandwiches into cool shapes like stars, circles, hearts, etc. Here are some ideas that aren’t the typical baloney & cheese ideas:
*Apple slices with almond butter, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on whole grain bread.
*Chicken or turkey breast with homemade cranberry sauce on whole grain bread.
* Hummus on whole grain with lettuce, sweet peppers, cheese.
*Peanut butter & Jelly (because who doesn’t love a PB&J)-instead, try almond butter,
apple butter or cashew butter with all natural jam/ jelly or make your own, it’s easy!
5. Protein! Try experimenting with great, healthy protein options paired with a clean whole grain.
Your kids (or you) will get good, long-lasting energy from these clean carbohydrate sources, which eliminate late afternoon energy crashes. Some great choices are: hummus, avocado, hard boiled eggs, etc., make it fun & use colorful veggies as decoration!
With all of these options, make sure the beverage you’re providing isn’t packed with sugar, this will also lead to energy slumps. There are tons of low-cost organic, low sugar options out there, even in regular super markets as well as Target, Walmart, etc., providing healthy options doesn’t have to cost a bundle.
Happy Back to School!
Be well,
Lisa.
Boat Pose: This move is typically performed in yoga called the boat pose. This works the rectus abdominis. This is a tough pose that challenges your abs, but is one of my favorites without doing a single crunch! Pictured here: a modified boat pose.
