First, they needed to infiltrate Mount Olympus. Achilles prayed to his mother, Thetis, but they were refused because of their mortality. Then they prayed to Iris to take them on her rainbow. She agreed and demanded they pay a heavy sum, knowing the men were unlikely to even survive the trip. Odysseus, sensing her trick, ordered the men to cover themselves in thick clothes and armor. The men quickly found Hera’s domain, stole the golden apple, and gave it to Aphrodite. Hera, furious with their thievery, persuaded the gods to destroy the nation’s under Paris’s control until the apple was returned. Paris lost all his power and wandered the once flourishing land. A nymph took pity upon him, and they were later married.
