FOREWORD

As we reflect on the strides made this year, it is evident that the region has started to recover and adapt to the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which fundamentally altered the education landscape. These changes have led to a renewed focus on strengthening data systems and decision-making processes within the region.

The impact of the pandemic underscored the need for robust and inclusive data systems. In response, the OECS Commission has worked diligently to address gaps identified during this period. It is noteworthy that partnerships with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and collaboration with OECS statisticians have significantly improved, enabling a more coordinated and effective approach to data collection and analysis.

This year, the Digest team has also made significant progress in enhancing user access to information. Prior to data collection, the regional questionnaire was updated to maintain currency as per the educational context within the OECS sub-region. Given the focus on Technical Vocational Education and Training, tables were added in the instrument to reflect the various modalities being used for delivery across Member States. Statisticians have demonstrated commendable commitment by submitting data in a timelier manner. Also, the OECS Statistical Digest is continuously reviewed and revised to ensure ease of comprehension for the end user. These improvements not only elevate the value of this publication but also reaffirm the importance of education data as a critical tool for policy development, monitoring, and evaluation.

As the region continues its journey toward a data-driven culture in education, there is optimism that ongoing efforts under the regional Education Management Information System initiative will bring transformative changes to education data management. This year’s progress provides a strong foundation for the realization of a modern, interconnected data ecosystem that can support strategic interventions across Member States.
