Similarly at the secondary level most pupils attend public secondary schools as seen on figure 3.6. It is notable that in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica there are higher proportions of private enrolment whereas in the other territories the proportions are quite small. These Private/ Assisted Schools are usually church affiliated institutions which receive some support from the government.

Some pupils within the OECS sub-region, enter secondary school before their 12th birthday. Consequently, when they enrol in Form 1, they are regarded as being under-aged for their class. As shown on figure 3.7, there is a small proportion of these children progress through the cycle being the youngest in their form (see figure 3.7). Most pupils are at classified as being class aged (see figure 3.7). This means that they are at the specified age for their grade such as 12-years-old in Form1, 13-years-old in Form 2 etc. At the other end of the spectrum there are some children who are over the specified age for their given grade and hence, regarded as being over aged.
