convention recap
campaign slogan would be. My alarm went off at 5:45 the next morning and it hit me! “Charlie for Parli '' Who doesn’t love a rhyme am I right. Saturday I spent most of my time learning about the role and duties of Parliamentarians as well as writing my speech. By the time the speech hit, I was the most nervous I’d ever been because I already bombed some sort of public speaking in front of judges. How was I supposed to give a speech in front of the entire OJCL? But here’s the thing, if you’re nervous never show it because as soon as it slips everyone will know i.e. if you pretend to be confident you’ll look confident. I went to sit back down and I got a fistbump from Nora with a “you crushed it.” I was so shocked. When Meet the Candidates eventually came, all my cramming for the duties of the Parliamentarian Office paid off. I answered the questions so well, I turned the goofy question into something inspirational. I went to bed that night knowing my hard work had paid off. After I forgot to set my alarm the next morning. I got a nice awakening from my teachers 5 minutes before we left for the award ceremony, and when I heard the announcement that I won. I was so shocked words couldn’t describe it. Overall I don’t think I could’ve done it without the support of my colleagues and friends campaigning and supporting me all the way. Rome wasn’t built in 24 hours, but my whole campaign was. If there's one thing I hope you all learn from this story is that there's always a way to get something done. - Charlie Moser
Overall the Convention was an unforgettable experience for me. The theme was how the beginning of all things were small. Ironically that was exactly my experience. I went from the lowest lows to the Highest Highs. I know you all are confused on how I was at the lowest of lows. When I signed up for it, I didn’t quite know what Dramatic Interpretation was, little did I know that one of my Latin Teachers would be the judge. When I walked into the room, not having a clue what the passage I was supposed to have memorized was. He quite literally kicked me out. This was the most bummed out I felt, because I felt like I had already wasted my time at the Convention. About twenty minutes later though, I got a knock on the door from Nicholas Stanis (Former Treasurer/Parliamentarian) and Patrick Biernat (Former Historian) with a sheet about signing up to be a state of emergency candidate for the office of Parliamentarian and a suit and tie. They “voluntold” me to sign up to run. Knowing nothing about the role, I put it on and got prepped to make up a speech off the top of my head by both of them. When Nom Com hit, I was super scared because I figured everyone else knew what the heck they were doing and I had no clue. Somehow after making that speech up I made it into the next round. That Night I spent the whole time figuring out what a decent
This year was my first time ever attending a Latin Convention, and I had more fun than I ever imagined I would when I signed up to attend. From playing Certamen to attending colloquia everything was new to me. The experiences that I had at the convention grew my love of the classics and inspired me to apply for Gubernator.

I had an amazing time at convention this year! Last year, I attended convention online and had a great time. However, my time in-person was even better! Playing Certamen, dressing up for the banquet, laughing with my friends, and meeting new people all made for an absolutely incredible weekend. Surveying the extraordinary artistic talents of the classics community, signing up for loads of fun contests, testing my limits in Certamen, and many other engaging activities kept me busy all weekend. I can’t wait to go to Convention again next year!
