Once we arrived in Arizona we went straight to Freedom Holiness Church in the San Carlos Reservation area which was where we were going to serve the community there. Our first two days in were mainly to meet and get along with the Ohio team and prepare for the VBS we were having for the kids in San Carlos. On the first day of VBS I was a group leader along with Sarah Han, a member of the Ohio team, and helped out our own little group of kids. These kids in San Carlos were the sweetest things. Even if you had no idea what their name was, they would always be willing to give you a hug. We were given a bit of background information on the kids prior to arriving in Arizona. Most of the kids there lived either with a guardian or a relative in the family because their parents would either be drug addicts and/or alcoholics. With those facts in mind I had the mindset that these kids were going to be depressed or upset but against my expectations, all of them always had a smile on their face and were always excited to see us.
