What was your service project?
My community service project was about raising money
for an orphanage by organizing and participating in a
bake sale. The money used for materials (for bake sale)
could come from Star Parents.
How did you prepare for your service project?
I prepared for my community service project by sending
lots of emails to people who I needed to contact, for
example Mr. Sweet, Ms. Hardage, Ms. Julia, Bowen’s
mom… I also had to research orphanages contact
number and WeChat in order for me to ask them for
information.
What were some of the obstacles along the way?
The obstacles along the way was that some of the
people didn’t answer email quickly so that affected
my timeline. Another obstacle was that during the
bake sale, there weren’t many people coming to buy
the desserts, so we had to go find people and sell it to
them. The last obstacle was that when I went to the
orphanage希望之家, the orphanage was closed already,
so I had to ask my friend to give me their orphanage
contact number.
What do you wish you had done differently?
What I wish I could have done differently was that before
actually getting to the orphanage(希望之家), I should of

made sure that it wasn’t closed. Another thing is that I
should of realized there isn’t a refrigerator in the bake
sale, so I shouldn’t make cakes that were going to melt
easily.
What have you learned from this experience?
I have learned many different things from my community
service project. I’ve learned how to contact with people
that I don’t know, or talking in front of lots of people,
and more experiences about how to play with orphans.
How has this experience changed you?
This experience has changed me by helping me be less
shy talking to people I have never met. Also, I would
like to do more community service projects in going
forward.
