SPOTLIGHT
DAYSTAR ACADEMY BEIGAO CAMPUS
During the third week of October, Daystar Academy
Beigao campus students participated in our long-
standing tradition: Daystar’s Charity Run. Now known
as “Week for Change,” this year marks the 8th year our
students have run to raise funds for worthy causes.
Early Learning Center & Elementary
Students
This year our Early Learning Center and Grades 1 and
2 students ran to support our long-time partners and
neighbors, Blue Sky Healing Home and Our Learning
House. For the past four years, funds from the charity
run has gone towards providing a year’s supply of
fresh fruits and eggs for Blue Sky. Meanwhile, every
Wednesday afternoon, Daystar families read to children
at Our Learning House Our Learning House, a learning
center for children with disabilities and reads to them.
This year, it’s an added bonus that we can help provide
some funds to them as well.
First up was our Early Learning Center on Thursday,
October 18th. Bright and early that morning under the
brilliant blue sky, they proudly wore their bright orange
“Week for Change” head bandanas, and were off in a
flash as soon as they heard the ringing bell. Even though
the large soccer field may have appeared daunting for
our young runners ages 3-5, fun obstacles along the
way made the run that much more challenging and
entertaining for all the students!
On Friday, October 19th, it was the Elementary students’
turn. Parents came out in full force to cheer on the students,
as they ran with enthusiasm and great determination. With
friends and families pledging donations either per lap or
a fixed donation, they knew their efforts, were helping
someone.
Daystar Academy Fall/Winter Edition 2018
It’s important that students feel engaged and have
a sense of ownership in anything they do. As such,
students from Grades 3-5 selected their own causes to
support.
