SPOTLIGHT Grade 3: New Hope Foundation The foundation provides personal care and seeks medical treatment for babies who are ill, or who have surgically correctable deformities. Grade 4: Establish a library for a school in Lai Yuan Mountain, Hebei Province. Grade 5: Help students from Our Learning House purchase medical supplies and wheel chairs. At Daystar, every grade six student reads the book “A Long Walk to Water,” by Linda Sue Park as part of their English curriculum. The main character of the story is Salva Dut, and the book details his hardship in sourcing water for his family. He is the founder of “Water for South Sudan,” and our students were moved by his story and wanted to raise funds for his foundation. After some reflection, they decided to hold a bake sale, sell used books, and provide manicures and pedicures to raise funds for his cause. They did this also on Friday, October 19th. Middle School Students For our Middle School students, the cause they selected directly connected to their learning; something that they had felt strongly about, and wanted to support. However, the absolute highlight of the day was when Mr. Dut actually visited Daystar in person and shared his inspiring story with everyone that afternoon. We were honored to have the opportunity to host him and were humbled by his story. Thanks to the community’s concerted efforts during that week, the total amount of the funds raised by Daystar Academy Beigao Campus was 65,654.20 RMB! The funds raised will go towards the above-mentioned foundations that the students chose to support. Thank you to everyone for supporting this event and helping make it such a memorable and meaningful week for all. 25
