Surprise was when it was found that Large Billed Crow (Indian Jungle Crow), which was thought to be the com- monest turned up to be only third in the list. The top ten endemics of Western Ghats were also listed, of which Nilgiri Flower-pecker topped. Malabar Barbet and Malabar Starling closely followed and next was Malabar Grey Hornbill. Crested serpent eagle was the commonest raptor, followed by Shikra and Oriental Honey Buzzard. Apart from the excitement, concerns were also there. It was quite surprising that we did not encounter woodpecker as we expected. May be, we will find them next year, because we will have more birders to join us!
