graph. Red Whiskered Bulbul topped our list,
followed by White Cheeked Barbet. Surprise was
when it was found that Large Billed Crow (Indian
Jungle Crow), which was thought to be the com-
monest turned up to be only third in the list.
The top ten endemics of Western Ghats
were also listed, of which Nilgiri Flower-pecker
topped. Malabar Barbet and Malabar Starling
closely followed and next
was Malabar Grey Hornbill.
Crested serpent eagle was the
commonest raptor, followed
by Shikra and Oriental Honey
Buzzard.
Apart from the excitement,
concerns were also there. It
was quite surprising that we
did not encounter woodpecker
as we expected. May be,
we will find them next year,
because we will have more
birders to join us!
Malabar grey hornbill
filled with amazing varitey of life forms. A total
of 179 checklist was uploaded to ebird. We had
sighted or heard 122 species. It was a feeling of
thrill and pride for us when we reported our find-
ings to the Dean of our college.
Fun gave way to science once the bird count
days were over. The data uploaded was consoli-
dated and accessed form the ebird website. All we
had to do was sort the species in descending order
