he annual Campus Bird Count conducted as a part of Global
Backyard Bird Count was welcomed as days of celebration of
the winged beauties of our campus. Nestled in the scenic hills of
Vythiri, Wayanad District of Kerala, College of Veterinary and
Animal Sciences campus is a treasure trove of life forms. The
campus is rich in its floral and faunal diverstiy. This motivates
us to earnestly participate in the campus bird count (CBC) pro-
grammes. The first CBC of our college was done last year and
we had recorded 104 bird species from here. This was a great
morale booster for us. This year we decided to take it up a notch.
Birding was not a hot topic among the students in the cam-
pus, but the CBC results of last year and the thrill of volunteer-
ing in Wayanad Bird Atlas project gained a few bird lovers in
the campus. This year's event was taken up as an introductory
training for budding birders in the campus. A class on bird
