MESSAGE
It is my pleasure to pen this in support of the Singapore Tamil Youth Conference 2014 (STYC 2014),
an excellent initiative by the National University of Singapore Tamil Language Society’s (NUS TLS) 35th
Executive Committee to promote the use of Tamil.
STYC 2014 facilitates a deeper academic rigor with regards to the Tamil language. I congratulate the
organising team for recognizing the many opportunities that exist for the use of Tamil in Singapore. The
theme of the conference is of particular interest. “Youthful Tamil in Vibrant Singapore” demonstrates that
the use of Tamil remains alive and strong. This helps to create a sense of pride towards the language and
motivate youth to continue engaging in, and enhancing the use of, Tamil.
The efforts of STYC 2014 in reaching out to tertiary students to write conference papers help
broaden the learning process of our students in local universities. These papers will be presented to an
audience which is expected to comprise many tertiary students.
It is heart-warming to see our youth actively involved in promoting their mother tongue. I would
like to commend the efforts of the organising committee and wish them and all participants the very best for
the upcoming event.
Thank you.
