each class is being conducted. Teachers were carefully
selected so as to provide quality education for the students. Furthermore, course packs were given out for free
to the students. To ensure that it is convenient for students, Saadhana was held at Management Development
Institute of Singapore (MDIS) which is in a centralised
location and we would like to thank Singapore Indian
Development Association (SINDA) and Singapore Indian Education Trust (SIET) for their continued support
towards this project.
With the aim of fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and promoting a healthy lifestyle, NUS TLS
has been organising Sports Spectra, a sports event, for
the past 21 years. A project that has been much anticipated amongst the youth every year proved to be even a
greater success this year determined by the higher number of sign-ups. This was because, unlike previous years
where registrations were based on institutions, we had
an aged-based registration criterion this year. This was
done to be able to impact a wider range of Indian youth.
The biggest project for NUS TLS this year would be the
Singapore Tamil Youth Conference 2014. NUS TLS has
a reputation in organising Tamil Seminars for the Tamil speaking youth. NUS TLS is also proud of having a
reputation of having organised a World Tamil University
Youth Conference in 2012. This year we have decided
to shift our focus to Singapore and the local Tamil literature and thereby came up with the theme, ‘Youthful
Tamil in Vibrant Singapore.’ With the hard work of the
35th Executive Committee over the past months, today
Singapore Tamil Youth Conference 2014 commences in
a grand fashion.
The 35th Executive Committee has also embarked on various new projects. Firstly, NUS TLS was
one of the partner organisations for the Tamil Language
Festival organised by the Tamil Language Council. Even
though NUS TLS played a small role, we were able to
garner interest for this festival among the youth with
our publicity efforts. However, this is just the first step! I
believe that our participation in such community events
in the coming years would reach new heights. Further-

more, NUS TLS also participated in the Singapore Writers Festival organised by the National Arts Council. We
presented various bits of Thamizhavel G Sarangapany’s
literary works to the audience.
In the hunt to serve the community, we supported ‘Maalu Maalu Lanka’ an Overseas Youth Expedition Project. This was a project about teaching English
and IT to schools where there was a high density of Tamil in Sri Lanka. We believe that NUS TLS would carry
on with this project and increase its involvement in the
coming years.
At this juncture, on behalf of the 35th Executive
Committee, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude
to everyone who has supported us in one way or another.
I am indebted to extend my ardent appreciation
to the members of the 35th Executive Committee who
has been my pillar of support and more importantly, for
having faith in me. The Committee that soon became a
family was made up of members from various faculties
and levels. The commitment and dedication from all the
members who worked hard have resulted in the successes that have come our way for this past academic year.
Having forged close bonds among us, we hope that this
bond would continue to foster and would contribute
positively to the community.
Thank You.
