I.7 The establishment of the Institute of Environmental and Water Studies in 2001 - known as the "Water Studies Institute" until 2007- came as a result of several training programs and joint research and development projects with the Dutch Institute for Water Education (IHE-DELFT), especially between 1994- 2000. The goal was to develop and build the capacity of employees in the water and wastewater engineering sector. The Institute seeks to reach a distinct status of excellence in Palestine and in the region through the continuous development of academic programs and research to create an environment conducive to advanced scientific research. In addition to academic programs, the Institute participates in the development and implementation of numerous applied research projects and technical consultancy with local and international funding. The Institute also aims to achieve several strategies, including the contribution in solving the problems of the water sector in Palestine and in the region through the provision of appropriate academic programs, distinguished research and constructive training programs.
