Overview
Google Drive is cloud-based storage, which means no matter where you are or what computer you use
to save a file to Google Drive, it will show up anywhere you can access Google Drive. So let’s say you are
working on a lesson plan at home and you upload the file to Google Drive, then you get to work the next
day and open Google Drive; the file will be there.

How to name documents and folders
Since many students may be sharing documents and folders with each other and with staff, it can get
confusing quickly if you are not naming properly. The best way to counteract this is to come up with a
common naming scheme for files and folders and stick to it. A good naming scheme should tie the item
to a time, a class, who created it, and what is it for. Try not to use spaces if possible in the name, the
computer can find files much easier if you put dashes or underscores.
You may want to come up with your own scheme, but here is an example to help get you started:
For documents and folders, include in the name
The current school year (2016-2017)
Your Class (3rdGrade)
Your Name (last name then first name)
The name of document or folder
For example, a document may be name: 20163rdGrade-ForsterJon-PlanetResearchProject
A folder may be named: 20163rdGrade-Science-TurnInFolder
The most important part is that it is easy to understand for yourself and uniform across the board. You
do not have to use my example, but come up with some sort of naming scheme. It will save you
countless hours of searching through files.
