ԱՇԽԱՐՀԻ ՀԱՅ ԲԱՐԵՐԱՐՆԵՐԸ ARMENIAN PHILANTHROPISTS OF THE WORLD
Ջերարդ Գաֆեսճյանը ծնվել է 1925 թ-ի ապրիլի 26-ին Նյու Յորքի Բրուքլին թաղամասում : Նրա ծնողները ներգաղթել էին Միացյալ Նահագներ նախքան 1915 թ-ի Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը : Գաֆեսճյանը մասնակցել է Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմին Խաղաղ և Ատլանտյան օվկիանոսներում տեղակայված ԱՄՆ ռազմածովային նավատորմի կազմում ՝ ծառայելով Կորսեր III զբոսանավի վրա , որը կառուցվել էր 1895 թ-ին ՝ ավելի ուշ վերածվելով գեոդեզիական հետազոտություններ իրականացնող ռազմանավի : Այն քարտեզագրումներ էր կատարում Գուադալկանալում և Սողոմոնյան կղզիների այլ հատվածներում : Գաֆեսճյանը նաև ծառայել է Անդրես ամերիկյան ռազմանավի վրա , որն ԱՄՆ-ից Հյուսիսային Աֆրիկա էր ուղեկցում պահակախմբերի : Պատերազմից վերադառնալուն պես նա ամուսնացել է բուժքույր Քլեո Թոմասի հետ , որին հանդիպել էր պատերազմի ժամանակ : Նա սովորել է տնտեսագիտություն Հանթեր քոլեջում և ստացել իրավաբանության դոկտորի աստիճան ՝ Սբ Հովհաննեսի համալսարանի Իրավագիտության
Gerard Leon Cafesjian ( 1925-2013 ) was a businessman and philanthropist who founded the Cafesjian Family Foundation , the Cafesjian Museum Foundation and the Cafesjian Center for the Arts .
Cafesjian was born on April 26 , 1925 in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn , New York . His parents had come to the United States preceding the Armenian Genocide in 1915 .
G . Cafesjian served in the United States Navy in WWII aboard the Corsair III , built in 1895 and renamed the USS Oceanographer . The ship did the extensive survey in and around Guadalcanal and other Solomon Islands . He also served aboard the USS Andres ( DE45 ), a destroyer escort for convoys from the United States to North Africa . After the war , Cafesjian married Cleo Thomas , a nurse he met during the war . He earned a degree in economics from Hunter College , and a doctorate of jurisprudence from St . Johns University Law School , both in five and a half years . G . Cafesjian was a member of the New York Bar Association .
