It is a wonderful collection that contains pieces for the seasoned collector but also for those who wish to start at the very beginning , enabling them to acquire a little piece of history .
►What changes have occured at the carpet auctions over the last 2 years ?
- The pandemic has changed the art market and the way we operate in a very short period of time . Clients , unable to travel to attend auctions , have grown more confident with buying pieces unseen . We continue to engage with our clients by the traditional methods of email and by telephone but now we can see and talk via Zoom , Teams or Facetime . We can send short videos of items of interest and we have widened our online capabilities , providing high resolution images , scaled drawings , super zoom images and video content that is posted via email , our website and social media platforms . The world has become smaller and the buying process has been made easier .

►What would you advise those who are interested in the history of carpet art ? - It is always wise to start with a good selection of literature on the subject . For the novice one can turn to ; Jon Thompson , Carpet Magic , London 1983 , Ian Bennett , Rugs and Carpets of the World , NY 1994 , P . R . Ford , Oriental Carpet Design , London 2008 . Browse museum websites . The V & A museum who has carried out extensive work in cataloguing and photographing their inventory so , while many are not on display , you can see most of what is stored on line . Auction catalogues are a good way at looking a lots of images of different types of weavings . Attend auctions where you can get up close and personal with pieces and have a handling session which is not possible in a museum . There are plenty of opportunities for new collectors to begin learning about one of the oldest art forms surviving .
