►What do you think about trends in 2021 ? How is the industry changing due to the pandemic ? - I never design according to trends . If someone else has done something similar , it makes no sense for me to repeat it .
Meeting clients is not easy these days , so I am creating a new line of rugs for children , the Charley Harper collection . These tufted carpets will be made in India from fine wool , which means high quality and reasonable price . These carpets will be sold on my website . I think that nowadays more and more people are buying carpets , even handmade , online .
►Classic Rug Collection is actively engaged in custom carpets . Are there any peculiarities in this area ? - My custom carpets are unique products . Creating carpets for a specific client according to individual wishes allows me to do something that has never been seen in carpet art before . For example , one of my clients from New York adored French Art Deco , but she did not find a suitable carpet . Now her house is decorated with truly unique and original carpets !
Another client from Moscow ordered two carpets 610 x 914 and 732 x 1189 . It would be very difficult to find two carpets of this size and match each other in colour and design . Almost all of my custom-made carpets have a coordinated palette of colours , because they must match a specific design and interior . Finally , custom carpets allow designers to work with carpets that the client already has in order to create a single set .
►We know that the Rug Collection is part of Good Weave . Tell us about the ethical principles of the company . - I have been a Good Weave member since I started my business in 1999 . The organization inspects factories in Nepal and India , making sure that child labour is not used there , because this is a big problem in such countries . If they find children , then they take the case under their control and send such children to local schools . More recently , the organization began working with manufacturers to find ways of dyeing yarn that use less water , thereby helping the ecology of the region and the world in general .
►You have sold your carpets to all continents except Antarctica . What is your next goal ? - One thing that I have wanted for many , many years is to have a representative office in Russia ! My husband used to be a professor of Russian literature , and I visited him several times when he was in Moscow and studied language at Moscow State University .
I speak Russian badly , but I am amazed at the culture of this country , so I have a goal to visit Russia again and fulfill my dream . My other little dream is to visit Isfahan . My father-in-law served in the U . S . Army and was sent there during the Second World War . He often talked about the beauty of this city . I want to go there and look at antique carpets , pottery , and the famous mosaics in the mosques .
►Which carpet would you call ideal ? - My ideal carpet is , first of all , the ideal carpet for the person who has ordered it . If clients ’ mouths open in astonishment , then this is the perfect carpet for me too !
►What is your company ’ s motto ? - Outstanding Design . Highest Quality . The Ultimate in Personal Service .
