Oskui ’ s trademark has become a masterful adaptation of traditional patterns to modern trends in colour and design . Today we are talking with Ali Oskui , a designer and the owner of the company , who will share the secrets of his profession , tell about trends in the world of textiles and give some useful advice while choosing a carpet .
►You were born in the north of Iran , in Tabriz , one of the oldest carpet weaving centers in the world . Do they teach carpet culture from childhood or do Iranians absorb it indirectly ? Does your family have carpet makers ? - My father worked in the carpet industry for several years . And my personal experience began with the carpet trade in Germany , where I have lived since 1988 . While I was waiting for a place at the university , I helped a friend in a carpet store . It was then when I discovered my passion for carpets and became interested in them .
►Your own journey began in creating jewelry . What are the similarities between the creation of jewelry and carpets ? - From a production point of view , these are two different worlds . In addition , the jewelry industry follows innovation and fashion . As for carpets , all the key patterns were developed three hundred years ago , during the Safavid dynasty , and since then , little has changed in Iran . Each city has woven the same patterns over the years , using the same colour . Decorations and carpets are rather similar to each other in terms of beauty . Carpets transform the space in a room , just like jewelry makes our body attractive . A room without a carpet is a room without a soul .
►You are both a designer and a manufacturer . Which is more difficult : being original in design or keeping the highest quality of traditional Iranian carpets ? - I think one does not exclude the other . Everything changes and carpets , as part of home design , need to be adapted . I take inspiration from old patterns and match them with modern decor and colour . But the quality of hand-woven wool and natural colours should be the same as the old ones .
