Kralj Matjaž/ King Matjaž
Kralj Matjaž, also known as 'The Sleeping King', was a legendary king in Slovenia, Croatia
and Hungary. According to the local legend, King Matjaž was a capable ruler who was
popular among his subjects. Because of his popularity, rival rulers conspired against him.
They sent their armies to crush Matjaž, but he was swallowed up by Peca, a nearby
mountain. He fell asleep in the bowels of the mountain, where he remains to this day.
The legend states that the king will one day reawaken, heralding a new era of prosperity
and happiness for Slovenia. Before that happens, however, his beard will have to encircle
his table in depth of the mountain seven times.
When he was the ruler nobody in his kingdom was poor or hungry.He was very rich, but
he never refused to give the poor his money. Everyone loved him because of his kindness
and generous.
If he would wake up today he would be disapointed. There is a lot of hunger in Slovenia,
generally in the world, and a lot of people who don't have enough money for basic things
that they need in their everyday life. He also wouldn't like the fact that wars still happen
all around the world.
Pegam and Lambergar
Pegam and Lambergar is the Slovenian People's romance, which praises the struggle
between Czechs Jan Vitovec and Slovenes Cristhoper Lambergar. Pegam asks the
Emperor if he has underneath someone who would confront him and the emperor
replied that he has, namely Lambergar from white Ljubljana.The Emperor quickly sent a
letter for the fight. His mother gave him this advice: when he arrived in Vienna invite in
the fight.Pegam will have three heads, and he expected the central section.Lambergar he
did so and it happened, as she said the mother. Pegam was defeated Emperor Lambergar
satisfied and happy.
