CLOSING STATEMENTS OF ROUND TABLE
Closing statement of Regional Director of the Friedrich Ebert
Foundation in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan
Henriette Kiefer
Thank you very much for your very interesting speeches. Today you have mentioned very
concrete points how Germany can expand further cooperation with Uzbekistan within the
framework of European Union but also in bilateral cooperation from trade and customs offices
to combat illegal trafficking, ensuring the development of quality standard of Uzbek goods to
be important for European Union.
Establishing more contacts between small and medium enterprises and of course
developing the German language it is very important point. The German language is a key for
receiving investments because if you want German companies to go to Uzbekistan build
factories, enterprises and employ Uzbek young people and you also can not expect that
transfer of “know-how” technology sill happen only in Uzbek or maybe Russian language. There
are very skilled German engineers but they are not so skilled in foreign languages. So it’s good
if you could communicate with them directly. And of course English language is prevailing all
over the world but especially in the technical spheres where Germany has also very unique
knowledge and skills that not transfer and only happen in German. So that my
recommendation to you learn the German also noting that English language is very important
today.
I took down notes and I will give them to Mr. Niels Annen and send them to Germany to
see. I am sure that these concrete topics we will see in some further development and
cooperation.
To conclude round table I would like to say that it was very good to hear about positive
achievements that have already been seen in the last 25 years cooperation of Germany and
Uzbekistan. It was very good to hear all the efforts that Germany has taken for 25 years to
support Uzbekistan development are appreciated and seen. It’s very good basis for further
cooperation and of course there is much to be done.
Today we have seen great efforts of Uzbekistan which already improved investment
climate to play important role for regional security. I think that Uzbekistan can be a stabilizing
factor in this region for security, peace and prosperity. I am sure that we will be cooperating in
this sense in this mood for the next 25 years.
I want to thank Mr.Norov and the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies for good
cooperation. I would like to thank all participants of today event and wish you all nice evening.
Thank you for attention!
