Statement of the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and
Industry

Dear participants,
First of all, let me welcome you to today's event on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry of Uzbekistan, holding of which, in our opinion, is very timely and relevant for
discussing issues of further expansion of Uzbekistan German multi-faceted cooperation.
Germany is a country with a highly developed economy with competitive industries such
as engineering, pharmaceuticals, chemical industry. Multidimensional cooperation between
Uzbekistan and Germany is developing intensively.
At the end of 2017, the trade turnover amounted to $ 613.1 million. (with an increase
of 15.9%), including exports - $ 25.7 million (a decrease of 30.4%), imports - $ 587.4 million
(with an increase of 19.3%).
In January-July 2018, the volume of mutual trade amounted at 386.9 million dollars
(with an increase of 0.9%).
Uzbekistan exports to Germany, mainly fresh and dried fruits and vegetables, products
of inorganic chemistry, mechanical equipment, cotton yarn and fabrics, clothing, organic
chemical compounds, precious and semi-precious stones.
The main positions of imported products are mechanical and electrical equipment,
vehicles, pharmaceuticals, instruments and devices, plastics, animals, products from ferrous
metals, chemical products, building materials, etc.
If
we
talk
about
investment
cooperation,
in
Uzbekistan
operate
132 enterprises with the participation of investors from Germany, including
33 enterprises with 100% foreign capital.
Successful examples of direct investment from Germany are projects for the production
of modern trucks from the “MAN” companies, agricultural machinery with the “Claas” concern
and the “Lemken” company, building materials with the “Knauf” company, cable products with
the “Deutsche Kabel” company. .
Future directions are opening of joint ventures in processing of agricultural products,
food production (confectionery, bakery products, dairy products), machinery and equipment for
the industry, development cooperation in the field of tourism, attraction of well-known
pharmaceutical manufacturers of Germany to Uzbekistan with the aim of creating joint
ventures in Uzbekistan and thus increasing the supply of products to third countries, as well as
textile products and building materials.
