SECOND PLENARY SESSION: "PROSPECTS FOR THE EXPANSION OF MULTI-
FACETED UZBEK-GERMAN COOPERATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEW
EUROPEAN STRATEGY IN CENTRAL ASIA"

Ladies and gentlemen,
Participants and guests of today's event!
As you know, Central Asia, which for millennium has contributed to the dialogue and
interpenetration of world cultures, languages and religions, has a significant potential of energy
and natural resources, unique transport and communication capabilities, regains important
geopolitical importance as one of the key elements of the peace system, stability, security and
sustainable development of the entire Eurasian continent.
Initiative on adoption of the Resolution of the UN General Assembly "Strengthening
regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development
in the Central Asian region” was first announced by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a speech at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in
September 2017.
It should be noted that all UN member states unanimously supported this document, the
draft of which was developed by Uzbekistan together with its neighbors. At the same time, 55
states, including Germany became its co-authors. As part of the practical implementation of
this initiative, the sides carried out a set of activities both in Uzbekistan and beyond.
At the same time, most countries showed a constructive attitude towards the document,
welcoming the unity of the positions of the Central Asian states on the draft resolution. The
resolution positively assesses the large regional and international initiatives of Central Asian
states in the field of security and sustainable development, their commitment to strengthen
bilateral and regional cooperation, deepening ties in education, science, technology,
innovation, tourism, culture, art and sports, promoting education as the main condition for
effectively countering violent extremism.
At the same time, the important role of the Central Asian states in ensuring peace and
stability in the region, as well as efforts to counter contemporary challenges, is recognized.
It is necessary to note the importance of developing bilateral and regional cooperation in
the framework of the activities of the European Union, including Germany on strengthening
