TRAVELING When a Dream Comes True Elizaveta Chernisheva Lyceum BSPU, Blagoveshchensk (Russia) I think all of us have special preferences on how to spend our summer and this experience is valuable. It can be a trip to faraway places or just a walk around the city. As for me, I like to spend my free time in an exciting and educative manner. The world is full of magic and breathtaking things so I prefer learning new cultures and history, discovering unknown facts and sights. For example, my mom and I visited the greatest city ever this summer. It was Saint Petersburg. We were there for a month and I should say that I loved it to the moon and back because there you can make a dream come true. Saint Petersburg is the city of history. There are a lot of places to visit. When I was there I walked the whole time trying to visit as many beautiful palaces, parks and museums as possible. It is a very atmospheric city. There you can be silent, realizing that it is the best conversation in your life. Just a talk to oneself. Walking down the street which name you don't know, sitting at a café where the waiter will bring you a cup of tasty coffee, you will feel very calm and peaceful. Walking around the city you will see a lot of old buildings which like the ancients will behold you from the height of their centuries. Some of them even have bullet holes. They were left as a memory of the war that traces you almost everywhere. At least once in your life you must visit the Hermitage, the Russian Museum and some famous churches of St. Petersburg. All of these places have a unique spirit and breathe out history. But I should say I didn't always think so. For example, when I was 11 I didn't like it. I mean, going to museums and learning history seemed boring to me but now I understand that it was silly. To tell the truth, I didn`t know that the Hermitage is so impressive. First it had been the residence of almost all the Romanovs starting from Catherine the Great but then the palace became a museum open for any visitor. It displays many European art works which are paintings, sculpture, and applied art from the 13th to the 20th centuries. So, you have an opportunity to see the collections of different epochs and the development of human outlook on life through colors and figures. Being there you have a strong feeling of having got back to the times of the emperors. When you take the magnificent State Gala Staircase covered with a red velvet carpet and decorated with sculptures, huge mirrors, ceiling paintings, marble, gilded wood carvings, you are going to experience oneself 47 SUNRISE November 2018 №1
