CULTURE
Asian Experience
What`s more, they frequently use the
phrase “don't worry” and this is how the
country received its nickname, the Land of
Smiles. Visitors will be hard-pressed to
encounter a Thai person who loses his cool.
Regardless of most situations, many Thai
people go to extreme lengths in order to
remain smiling and courteous. Then, if you
meet anyone it`s worth being ready to greet
him with the wai gesture, a motion when a
person puts his hands together and drops his
shoulders to make a bow. It may also mean a
multitude of things, including hello, thank you,
and goodbye.
No doubt, traditions play an important
role in Thailand and everyone who lives there
follows them on everyday basis. For example,
house for the Thais is very sacred and it`s
considered impolite to enter it in shoes, you
need to take them off. The Thais love breeding
orchids and gardeners often bring them from
vacation to decorate the surrounding.
One more interesting fact I should
mention about is that the Thais are very easy
going and funny people. They are fond of
festivals and celebrations. I got to know that
people pour water on each other on New Year
wishing happiness but on the first Friday of
February, in the Northern city of Chiang Mai, a
spectacular and beautiful festival of flowers is
held. It usually attracts many tourists and it
smells and sounds botanic wonders. Being
there we were on excursions too, sunbathed
on vast beautiful beaches, swam at the
swimming pool and learnt the foreign culture.
Everything was cool and I loved my journey.
In August I went to Malaysia, a
beautiful land with unique history and plenty of
things to do. My destination was Kuala Lumpur,
the capital, which is located right by the
Gombak River and the Klang River so the city is
quite prone to flooding. The name Kuala
Lumpur actually comes from a Malay term
that means “muddy confluence”, which refers
to the natural feature of the country to get
absolutely flooded during monsoon season.
When I was there I visited the Petronas
twin-towers and the Menara TV tower, which
offers an amazing panorama on the whole
city. The Petronas tower is the 88-storey
skyscraper. The design of the skyscraper was
attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia,
who proposed to build a building in the Islamic
style. The complex consists of two eight-
pointed stars, and the architect added
semicircular projections for stability. The
Menara tower is also one of the highest TV
towers in the world that has special platforms
and a restaurant with a beautiful view of the
city.

It goes without saying that this place
is also famous for its temples and Batu caves,
old and impressive. There are a lot of shopping
malls designed in an Egyptian-inspired style
and many other unique buildings. They all are
quite attractive and full of tourists.
In conclusion I`d like to say that I
enjoyed my travelling a lot and, moreover, I was
presented with a dog in August. I had been
dreaming of it for a long time and when I got it I
was very happy! You know, I will remember this
summer forever! It was unforgettable and
great! I really liked my summer.
