REGIONAL
FINANCIAL CENTER
OF ALMATY CITY
The recent development of Almaty
has not only been cultural and scientific,
but also the financial center of
the Republic of Kazakhstan, so let us
talk about the competitiveness of this
administrative and territorial unit. In
its turn, this was another reason for
launching the process of building the
Regional Financial Center of Almaty in
2003.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
in the speech «The Strategy
for Kazakhstan to Become One of the
Top 50 Most Competitive Countries
in the World», as of 1 March, 2006,
defined the tasks that should be performed
in order to develop the financial
sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In this respect, special attention was
paid to the development of Almaty city
in order to make it the main financial
center of the Central Asian region. The
key points of this work were the creation
of favorable conditions for and enabling
of large-scale financial institutions to
perform lending activities, provision of
insurance and financial services to largescale
regional business-projects, as well
as the provision of appropriate infrastructure
to this financial center.
The first priority
of goals for the
establishment and
development of the
Regional Financial
Center of Almaty are as
follows:
Establishment of the
financial center, which
meets international
standards and ensures
successful integration of
the Kazakhstani financial
sector into global capital
markets.
Attraction of foreign
investment, further
development of the
Kazakhstani equity market,
increasing its capitalization
and liquidity, involvement
of individuals as investors
in the securities market and
creation of opportunities to
export Kazakhstani capital.
