We cannot imagine an urban space without street art . It is the language of the city , the same as architecture or parts of conversations of passers-by . As in any narrowly focused field of activity , street art has its own professional slang — tags , pieces , throw-ups , bubbles , murals . As Simon Armstrong writes in his book « Street Art »: « One of the features of graffiti is its charming , Zen in its own way ephemerality . Beauty is fleeting . Any tag , pis or even mural can be painted over with another or destroyed literally the next day . Therefore , to see it is happiness , a kind of honour : when you find yourself in the same place again , it will probably be gone ». Despite protests from the city administration regarding some graffiti , Tomsk is rather a favourable environment for street art . For Tomsk , graffiti is the formation of a comfortable youth urban environment , an excellent tourist potential , a creative space for photoshooting , and a functional decoration of typical architectural objects .
