Megara and the broader area comprise a
40,000 acres archaeological site, where
ruins of ancient temples and buildings,
Byzantine and more recent monuments
coexist with the modern city, creating a
unique map of antiquities. Parts of the
fortification wall have been discovered
all over the city. An important find is
the Fountain of Theagenes, built by the
famous Megarian architect Eupalinus,
one of the biggest and more significant
water supply structures of 5 th century
BCE.
