Aigosthena
Opposite Eleutheres a road
leads to Aigosthena, the for-
tified acropolis on the foot-
hills of Mt Kitheron, on a hill
close to the seaside town-
ship of Porto Germenos. It
is one of the best preserved
ancient fortresses in Greece.
Significant parts of the 4 th
century BCE fortification
wall and the towers remain
today. The SE tower of the
fortification has recently
been restored to its original
shape, and one can visit it to
enjoy the panoramic view.
The broader area of the
fortress is open at all times,
while the restored tower
every Wednesday and
Sunday from 10:00 am to
14:00 pm.
