The Sacred Way was the basic road of Athens to the
west, linking it to Eleusis, and from there started two
still existing ancient roads leading to Thebes and
Aigosthena. Along them, we have a series of fortified
positions.
Towards the west, there is an entryway created by
naturally occuring passes between Mounts Aigaleo
and Parness, protected in antiquity by the Fortress of
Phyli and the Wall of Dema.
