Agia Varvara Church

The domed three –aisled basilica of Agia Varvara was erected in 1904 on the location of an
old destroyed monastery. Oral tradition has it that there has been a church on the location for
over 1,000 years, as old as neighboring Daphni Monastery. The church’s altar is called “Evresis” –
discovery – after a shepherd discovered there the Saint’s icon, 100 years ago. Many of the icons
of the church have been described by Fotis Kontoglou.
