worst mass execution of prisoners in Greece took place on
May 1 st 1944, when 200 communists were taken to Kaisariani
Shooting Range where they were shot. A heroic figure of the
camp, Napoleon Soukadjidis, a prisoner - interpreter, proved
his worth by turning down the commander's proposal to
spare his life by replacing him with another prisoner, so that
the target of 200 executed men would not be missed. BLOCK
15 has been named a Historical Memory Monument and is
the logo of Haidari Municipality.
