Haidari Military Camp – BLOCK 15
Haidari Concentration Camp was a place of torture, executions and
terror, a transit camp that operated from 1943 to 1944 at the premises
of the camp built by then dictator Ioannis Metaxas in 1936 on a
location called Karaiskakis, named after a Greek Revolution hero. One
of its buildings, notorious BLOCK 15, was first used in 1943 as a strict
confinement prison. It is estimated that more than 21,000 people were
detained there. Among them, many Greek Jews, the vast majority of
whom were transported and perished in Auschwitz-Birkenau. The
