Over 127 species of birds have been observed, using Vourkari mainly as a migratory stopover and wintering spot. The topography of the area with its headlands and islets is ideal for their protection from sea currents. The area of the wetland shrinks fast due to the unregulated increase of summer houses, and the need to protect it is urgent. Another important landmark of Vourkari is the Wall of Agia Triada.
