Vourkari, Megara
Vourkari or Vourkadi, in
Megara, is a coastal wetland,
host of numerous and rare
birds. Over 127 species of
birds have been observed,
using
Vourkari
mainly
as a migratory stopover
and wintering spot. The
topography of the area with
its headlands and islets is
ideal for their protection
from sea currents.
The area of the wetland
shrinks fast due to the
unregulated increase of
summer houses, and the
need to protect it is urgent.
Another important landmark
of Vourkari is the Wall of
Agia Triada. (See Page 85)
