“Baroutadiko”, Aigaleo’s Park, occupies an area of 134 acres and, starting from the modern Sacred Way
it stretches north up to Athens – Corinth National. Road. It owes its name – Gunpowder Factory in
Greek – to the ammunition factory that operated there from 1874 to 1970. The workforce comprised
of Asia Minor refugees settled in Nees Kydonies Township and the old housing facilities of the factory.
In 1974 all buildings were pulled down, with the exception of a chimney, and the park was created.
In it there are educational and sports facilities, refectories and the open-air municipal theater “Alexis
Minotis”.
