Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Aphaia, Skaramangas area
About 11 th km of Athens – Corinth National Road
The Sanctuary is to be found west of Daphni Monastery, in the tiny hamlet of Aphaia. It is a
rectangular open-air temple with a surrounding yard, adjacent to a rock face with niches carved on it
meant for offerings, thus the locals call it “closets”.
Many of the offerings (pigeons, pudendums) are exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum
of Athens.
