Το συγκεκριμένο όνομα το πήρε
αργότερα από ένα θάλαμο του ναού
που ονομαζόταν «Παρθενών», στον
οποίο συγκεντρωνόντουσαν οι
παρθένες που υπηρετούσαν την θεά
Αθηνά, στην οποία ήταν αφιερωμένη η
ανύψωση του ναού.
