conservation and protection of the marbles by Great Britain is not only poor , but also not constructive at all . A good illustration of this is that officials in Great Britain allowed for cleaning the sculptures using chlorine ! As a result , they were of course partly damaged .
Another quite recent example is the following : some time ago the British Museum gave permission to Erdem Moralioglou , who is a fashion designer , to deliver in the Duveen Gallery , among the Parthenon Marbles , one of his runway shows during London Fashion Week . How can the British Museum think to have authority over the Greek Marbles , when it has insulted the universal values they convey ? Fashion shows among ancient monuments should take place after careful consideration and planning , only when the ethnic notions of a land are not insulted and trivialized in any way . Great Britain knew that Greece would be sensitive to such a use of the Duveen Gallery . However , they completely ignored our history and rights .
Conclusively , the Elgin Marbles , are not Elgin Marbles , but Hellenic Marbles , marbles with identity and a historical background . They do belong to Greece and have to return to it !

Sightseeing in Athens
Athens is a city with many historical monuments . The best known is the Acropolis . The Acropolis of Athens refers to the rock on which the Parthenon , ‘ the Temple of Athena Nike ’, ‘ the Propylaea ’, ‘ the Erechtheum ’ and other smaller buildings were built . The architects Ictinus and Callicrates , as well as sculptor Phidias , were the designers and responsible for the construction of the Parthenon . It was first built in 432 BC .
Later , the Parthenon was used as a temple , a mosque and a gunpowder store during the Byzantine years and the Turkish rule . The buildings were later destroyed . Despite all this , the Parthenon continues to inspire awe and is one of the wonders of the ancient world . You can visit the Acropolis Museum too . Another important museum is the Archaeological Museum in the centre of the city , which proudly presents the most important works of ancient art from the entire Greek area in all periods , from the Neolithic to the Late Roman times . Moreover , Greece is known for the Olympic Games , so every tourist that comes to Athens should visit the ‘ Panathenaic Stadium ’ to learn more about the Olympics . People who like theatre also ought to visit the Conservatory of Herod Atticus , which British archaeologist Chandler spoke about in 1764 .
Excavations in the 19th century brought ruins of the ancient theatre to light . In 1950 it was restored and covered with Pentelian marble . Since then , every summer , it plays a leading role in the city ’ s cultural events , hosting high-level artistic events . That ’ s why Athens is a cultural and historical centre that is definitely worth visiting .
