The Mrs. is an all-female rock band from Austin, Texas comprised of drummer Andra Liemandt, lead vocalists/guitarists Mandy Prater and Jennifer Zavaleta, vocalist/keyboardist Larissa Ness, and bassist Jenny Mason. I was able to ask Andra a few questions about their song “Enough” and the incredible Magic Mirror project. Zoom: What is the story behind the song “Enough”? Andra: The lyrics to our song “Enough” came from the realization that, as women, we each experience challenging times when we feel we’re letting ourselves and/or those around us down. As mothers, wives, and friends with very busy lives, we tend to beat ourselves up when we look in the mirror about our perceived shortcomings. In realizing that other women share these same concerns and that they also speak to themselves with a critical inner voice, we wanted to make these negative thoughts, fears and insecurities STOP! So we set out on a mission to change the way women see themselves when they look in the mirror. Zoom: The magic mirror and the “I’m Enough” movement speaks volumes to so many different people. What about this special message is so universal? Andra: I think The Mrs.’ “I’m Enough” movement and our Magic Mirror message resonates with so many people because it helps them to see themselves the way others see them—their inner beauty, their positive attributes, their strengths, their goodness, and so much more. As women, we’re always doing so much for other people, and often times we tend to put our own needs and priorities aside. Because of this, the Magic Mirror represents a place for women to see their true reflections, the way others see them, and to realize that they are, indeed, ENOUGH just the way they are.
