! LETTER FROM THE EDITOR make your mark ! ! ! A!common!phrase!we’re!used!to!hearing!is!‘life’s! short’.!We’ve!heard!it!so!much!now!that!we!just! nod!in!agreement!and!then!simply!shrug!it!off!in! about!2!minutes!straight.!Rarely!raising!a!second! thought.!It!doesn’t!really!even!affect!us!anymore,! I!mean!yes!life!is!short…!what!can!we!do!about! it?!!! ! We!can’t!change!how!quickly!we!grow!old,!I! mean!ok!yes!people!are!becoming!more!and! more!inventive!when!it!comes!to!that!but!at!the! end!of!the!day!we!can’t!prolong!it.!That!may! seem!depressing!to!some,!I!don’t!see!it!in!that! way…!!! ! Although!we!can’t!change!time!moving!forward,! we!can!change!how!we!see!it.! ! And!I!think!that’s!the!most!powerful!thing!we! can!do!in!our!lifetime.!!Forget!guns,!atomic! bombs,!even!computers.!! ! It’s!a!general!observation!that!when!you’re!being! productive!and!doing!something!you!actually! enjoy,!time!genuinely!seems!to!go!a!lot!faster.!It! has!to!physically!get!dark!before!you!stop!and!go! ‘oh!shit!it’s!1!in!the!morning’,!maybe!that’s!a! slightly!exaggerated!situation!but!I!think!you!get! my!point.!For!some!reason!I!vividly!remember! sitting!crossed!legged!on!the!floor!in!the!hall!in! my!primary!school!assembly!listening!to!my! head!teacher!try!to!explain!this!to!us.!As!obvious! and!simple!the!point!was!and!maybe!even!a!bit! cliché,!I!was!completely!captivated!by!what!he! was!saying,!even!though!if!I!was!being! completely!honest!with!myself!I!wasn’t!quite!! ! ! ! sure!why!this!new!piece!of!information!seemed! so!important.! ! And!now!I!get!it.!! ! It’s!about!perception.!The!most!power!you!hold! isn’t!in!your!bank!statement,!your!house!square! feet!measurement!or!your!car’s!speed.! 4
