"This monument to MIG 21, most widespread supersonic aircraft in the world, is the main symbol of the city of Zhukovsky, the city of aviation.

The Soviet multipurpose fighter was developed by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau in the mid-1950s. MiG-21 became the first aircraft with a delta wing and the first Soviet jet fighter of the third generation

The monument was established near Gagarin Street where MFTI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology is situated in 1976. There is a tradition with the students of the Institute to repaint the MIG after their graduation exams in June."
