Thinking outside the box is more than just a business cliché. It is all about approaching problems in new, innovative ways. Thinking outside the box doesn’t have to happen in a vacuum. It takes a lot of back and forth until a solution that works for the organisation is found.

Early this year in February, ZGF launched a call for proposals with a thematic focus on Access to Justice with the support of the European Union. Although Access to Justice is not a new domain for civil society in Zambia, the unique feature of this Call was that it sought to challenge CSOs to innovatively think beyond the traditional paralegal and gender based violence-oriented Access to Justice interventions. This time, CSOs had to think of interventions that promote Access to Justice in relation to environmental justice, youth empowerment, child labour and land rights.

A total of 103 applications were received from CSOs across seven provinces, out of which 83 were eligible for assessment. From this number, 43 were invited to submit full applications and following a comprehensive assessment process which included field visits, 11 applications were ultimately awarded. The total financial commitment towards these awarded grants is just under ZMW6,000,000.

Congratulations to the awarded organisations. ZGF is looking forward to working with them and seeing good results from this support.
