Moving onto campus can be a difficult and long process for new

The Extraordinary Give
This past November, the Zeta Chapter of Phi Kappa
Sigma partnered up with the Children Deserve a Chance
Foundation (CDCF), a local nonprofit that guides students
to college. In the foundation’s words, the mission is "to
support success-oriented youth from primarily underrepresented communities in their pursuit of academic
achievement, empowerment, and social engagement."
On November 22, CDCF participated in the
Extraordinary Give. For this event, several nonprofit
organizations in Lancaster competed to raise as much

funding as they could in a 24-hour period. Contributions
could only be made online and the minimum contribution
was $25. The brothers of Phi Kappa Sigma contacted friends and family, encouraging them to donate to this
terrific organization. They also took a trip to CDCF’s office in downtown Lancaster. While there, they
continued calling and e-mailing friends and
family, reminding them to donate. They
also met some of the CDCF scholars, the
students for whom the money was being
raised. Overall, Phi Kappa Sigma raised
$2,100 for the Children Deserve a Chance
Foundation, all of which will go towards
providing students with the resources they
need to get to college.
