Military escort Wide eyed, we searched for signs of a buffalo, hoping for perhaps elephant. Excitement overtook us when we noticed a baby mountain gorilla hanging alone in a nearby tree. After a glimpse, guides hurried our group far from the babe, allowing the jungle to obscure our view. In that jaded backpackercentered way, I assumed that since we had not paid the astronomical USD 500 official fee to see the gorillas, our guides would forbid us from snapping a decent picture. In hindsight, and with a bit more maturity, I learned that this babe was likely a young in one of the lesser-visited bands. After the politicized death of Dian Fossey, these fellows have received considerably less attention. Perhaps, the mother to this babe would be less than impressed by, or accustomed to, our presence. Still – a thrill. ZENSPIRATION.ORG 79
