Travel Many of us travel to exotic locations with a local guidebook, pocket full of inspiration and the knowledge of just a few basic phrases in the local language. With English being a global language we have grown accustomed to expecting everyone to converse with us in the English language. By taking the time to learn the local language you are not only showing respect to the local people, you are opening yourself up to experience the culture in its entirety. There is a whole world out there waiting to be explored, and the experience will be so much more memorable if you can interact and learn from the locals in their own language. Business With the advancement of computers and the internet it is now common practice for many companies to do business internationally. Whether it is trading, production or outsourcing, chances are that almost every company will trade with an international company at one time or another. Learning the language of the country that you primarily do business with will not only ensure clear and concise communication, it will also give you a greater understanding of how they do business which may save you thousands of dollars. With the rise of international business deals, comes a rise of jobs seeking people who speak an international language, especially within businesses that deal with exporting, engineering, governments and manufacturing. If you still need convincing, then take note - It is also a fact that people who use their languages in their jobs earn on average 8% more than those who don’t.
