4.2. Collaboration on Local Activity  “Mizubering” is a town gathering activity focusing on the waterside that is being carried out in  various parts of Japan, and “Mizubering Hiigawa” was carried out mainly in the Hiigawa area. The  activity was linked to the Kaminagao Terrace, and the deck of the Kaminagao Terrace was also installed  as part of that activity (Fig 3). Fig 8 shows the cleanup of the river that was carried out as a Mizubering  activity. Volunteer C and event coordinator D are mainly involved in this activity. Mr. C entered the  river before the total meeting time and was cleaning. MS D was picking up trash along the river path  and taking a picture of the work scene for SNS. By such cooperation, Kaminagao Terrace has been able  to make a deck, and it has become more active than local activities by participating in the activities of  players gathered from outside on Kaminagao Terrace. In this way, it has become a place to create new  regional attractions.    Mizubering is a non-profit organization that focuses on waterfronts in Japan. A deck on the Kaminagao Terrace was installed as part of this Mizubering activity. Mizubering held around the Hii River once a month. The Mizubering Hiigawa holds a “Mizubering Meeting” to discuss the future activities and “Hii River walk” where they can interact with the river while cleaning the river. The Hii River walk is being planned by Event Coordinator D. On November 17th, Mizubering Hiigawa participated by about 10 people including Coordinator D and Volunteer C, university professor and their students. Male member entered the River, and women and children picked up dirt on the road along the river. Mr. C entered the river before the meeting time and was cleaning by   Figure 8. ʺMizubering hiigawa”commnuty river cleaning acctivity      Figure 9. Process of creating local charm on Kaminagao Terrace  5. Conclusions  The  Kaminagao  Terrace  served  as  a  third  place  (or  social  engagement  venue)  which  attracted  residents from both immediate neighboring areas and the adjacent district. It yielded opportunities for  these  neighbors  to  realize  their  desires  and  expectations  of  social  engagement  actions  through  the  flexible  space  and  activities.  The  network  was  further  extended  to  welcoming  residents  from  far  distance in Fukuoka. Thus, the expansion of human engagement helped initiate the participants’ events  and accelerated their collaborative local activities within the community.          Exploring Combined Opportunities of a Third Place on Social Community Engagement in Japan: Kaminagao Terrace Case Study 74
