showing a tendency for a positive perception amongst groups of participants and their resulted
proposals for the design experience as a whole.
Since the beginning of the ZEMCH workshop, it has incorporated only acknowledgeable
cognitively prepared participants amongst undergraduates, professionals, and post‐graduated, all of
them highly educated in design strategies. Therefore, this Chilean instance was surveyed in the
convenience of opening the participation to a more diverse group of participants including other
disciplines. Furthermore, why not even maybe including inhabitants and people from the
prefabrication industry. To allow the latter will enlarge the scope and importance of the ZEMCH
workshop experience by having as a central strategy the Function Analysis System Technique (FAST)
and the Paired comparison and weighted evaluation to enhance participation, communication and
involvements of all parties in the aftermath of a natural disaster as a moment when everyone is equally
affected and the sense of belonging is at its highest.
5. Conclusions
ZEMCH workshop exhibits a positive effect on multidisciplinary collaboration and also shows
potential for the occurrence of innovative proposals because of the knowledge sharing produced.
Although designers perceived some level of conflict at the beginning of the workshop, in relation to
engineers, the general levels of conflict were low and the levels of value were high during the five days.
The activities done during day 3 are especially useful to order and organize the main ideas and
aims of the different projects. These activities could be arranged in order to include the opinions and
ideas of other types of participants i.e. professionals of other disciplines, inhabitants and people from
the prefabrication industry. This would improve the quality of the outputs and enlarge the scope of the
ZEMCH workshop experience.
