3.3. Operational Algorithm of EMS according to Photovoltaic Power Generation Pattern
Figure 3. Operational Algorithm of Demand Power EMS According to Photovoltaic Power Generation Pattern
According to the photovoltaic power generation pattern, the operation algorithm of EMS operates
in modes 1 to 5 when the ESS system is connected.
Mode 1 is used when the power generation of the photovoltaic system is greater than the load
usage, the battery SOC is more than 90%, and time T at that point is at maximum load or at a time after
the point when maximum load is forecasted.
Mode 2 is used when the power generation of the photovoltaic system is greater than the load
usage, the battery SOC is more than 90%, and the time T at that point is at maximum load or at time
before the point when the maximum load is forecasted.
Mode 1 is used when the power generation of the photovoltaic system is greater than the load
usage, but the battery SOC is less than 90%.
In general, Mode 4 is used when the load usage is larger than the amount of power generated by
the photovoltaic system, the battery SOC is more than 90%, and the time T at that point is at maximum
load or at a time after the point when the maximum load is forecasted.
Additionally, when the load usage is larger than the amount of power generated by the
photovoltaic system, the battery SOC is more than 90%, and the time T at that point is at maximum
load or at a time before the point when the maximum load is forecasted, system engages stand‐by and
jointly operates in Mode 5 when peak load arises. If system is not at peak load, it jointly operates in
Mode 6.
When the load usage is larger than the amount of power generated by the photovoltaic system,
the battery SOC is less than 90%, and the time T at that point is at maximum load or at a time after the
point when the maximum load is forecasted, Mode 7 is used at the time of light load.
If in the same situation it is not the light load time, Mode 8 is used. When the load usage is larger
than the amount of power generated by the photovoltaic system and the battery SOC is less than 90%,
Mode 9 is used when the time T at that point is at maximum load or at a time before the point when
maximum load is forecasted. If it is not peak load, it operates in Mode 10. In other cases, it is to be
automatically suspended.
