With these tests, it could be proved that the use of light shelves on facades that are not oriented
north or south is not advantageous, since the best results were obtained only on cloudy days, where
the lighting conditions and consequently the Angulation of the light beams occurs more uniformly,
because the light source in this condition of heaven is the celestial vault, not the sun directly.
5. Conclusion
By observing the analyzed results, the chosen classroom has a satisfactory lighting condition for
students activities but does not present the ideal circumstances in the total space. With this perspective,
it is concluded that the classroom has a necessity of strategies for bring more natural light for the deep
of room, besides studies of artificial lighting for preventing waste energy, thinking in new systems of
artificial illumination.
6. Future Steps
As a goal for further research, we compare the factor used for the analysis of lighting in the room
with other factors that use more variables, thus assessing their efficiency and have more accurate results
about the climate of the region. Besides, it is intended to measure, through devices such as lux meter,
the points analyzed in the NatLite and RadLite programs, thus comparing the results obtained by the
devices with the results tested in the simulation programs, thus proving the accuracy of the information
presented here. Finally, an investigation of artificial lighting strategies will be made and, thus, a more
detailed study of the possibilities of energy saving in study environments and specifically at FAU‐UFRJ.
