Abstract: Although modular Construction is regarded as to have enhanced safety compared to
traditional construction, several industrial accident data and studies have pointed out that the
accident rate of modular construction is not as low as what the practitioners have expected. To
enhance safety, it is necessary to identify the type and cause of accidents through accident cases in
order to prevent safety accidents in advance. In this consideration, this study analyzed the types and
causes of accidents through root cause analysis(RCA) procedure with accident cases of the U.S.
occupational safety and health administration(OSHA). The classification was carried out in order of
process types, accident types, and causes of accidents. The result can be used to the basic safety
management in the manufacturing and construction process of modular construction. This indicates
that proposed prevention methods could be a guide to the cause analysis and prevention strategies to
establish a safety plan for the modular project.
